How to Make Choices You Don’t Need to Heal From: Tapping into Your Intuition
Have you ever stopped to think about the choices you’ve made, the ones that left you needing to heal, recover, or rebuild? I don’t know about you, but in my almost four decades, I’ve made some of those choices. I’ve also been on the receiving end of others’ decisions that left me in a similar place.
It makes me wonder: How can we navigate life in a way that minimizes those kinds of choices? How can we make decisions that honor who we are at our core, choices that we don’t have to heal from later?
The answer I’ve come to is this so far: fully feeling and embodying our intuition and using it the way it’s meant to serve us.
Our intuition is an internal navigation system, always there, ready to help. But often, we bury it. We ignore it. We disconnect from it. We get stuck in old patterns, lost in mental loops, and tell ourselves stories that keep us in the same place.
But what if we could step into presence, curiosity, and acceptance of our current moment? What if we could tap into our intuition to find a new way, or even a middle way?
What Happens When We Don’t Tune In
When we disconnect from our intuition, we stay trapped in the labyrinth of our own making. We might:
Overthink and complicate decisions, believing that if we think hard enough, we’ll figure it out.
Feel overwhelmed by fear or guilt, unsure of the right next step.
Stay stuck in non-resonant situations, ignoring the whispers of our intuition.
Repeat unhealthy patterns, even when our bodies and emotions are signaling that something is off.
These whispers show up in relatable ways:
That nagging feeling of discontent or unease.
Physical tension or exhaustion that doesn’t go away.
A sense of misalignment, like life isn’t matching what you truly want.
Emotional heaviness or recurring thoughts that feel like warning signs.
These signals are your markers. They’re telling you it’s time to take a new direction, to carve a path that aligns with who you truly are.
The Power of Intuition
This is why exploring intuition is my passion. When we tune into, turn up, trust, and take aligned action based on our inner wisdom, everything shifts. I’ve seen this process transform my own life and the lives of others.
Two helpful practices to begin tuning into your intuition are:
Zooming Out: Gaining perspective and seeing the bigger picture and asking what’s truly needed from a place of presence.
Zooming In: Asking, “What’s the next best step?” and letting your heart, not your mind, lead the way.
Your intuition meets you exactly where you are and gently guides you toward where you want to go. It speaks through the “off” feelings, the non-resonance, and the patterns that no longer serve you. The key is learning to listen and take action.
How to Tune In and Make Aligned Choices

Make Space to Connect: Spend quiet moments with yourself. Reflect, meditate, or journal to create a space where your intuition can speak.
Notice Your Patterns: Pay attention to recurring thoughts, behaviors, or emotions. Ask yourself, “What is this trying to tell me?”
Ask Questions: Use curiosity as your guide. “Why am I making this choice? Does it feel aligned with my deepest desires?”
Find Supportive Practices: Engage in rituals, habits, or tools (like daily journaling, automatic writing, or intuitive card decks) that help you tune in regularly.
When you commit to showing up for yourself, your intuition begins to lead the way, helping you make choices you don’t need to heal from.
