Why Asking for Support is a Superpower in Healing and Personal Growth

The last two months have been a journey into parts of myself that I hadn’t visited in a while—a mental maze where I felt lost and unsure of how to find my way out. Healing, much like grief, feels like a non-linear process. You can be thriving one moment, and the next, you’re hit by a wave that pulls you under. In these moments, the choice to sink or swim becomes all too real, and this time, I felt myself sinking.

This struggle centered on one specific area of my life that has been my greatest teacher. Despite my best efforts—daily writing, returning to rituals, my weekly class, and seeking moments of pause—I realized I needed more support. A few sessions spread out with my coaches provided some relief, but it was jarring to go from feeling like I was on the brink of a breakthrough to suddenly being back in the depths. This experience reminded me that healing isn’t a quick fix; it’s a daily ritual, requiring patience and time.

As a coach, I’m well aware of the tools and strategies that can facilitate healing and personal growth. Yet, even with this knowledge, I recognized the importance of seeking help. It’s a reminder that we all need support at times, no matter how many tools we have at our disposal. It’s hard work, vulnerable work, and when I found myself spiraling in loops, unsure of how to get out of the maze, I called on support—extra support, consistent 3 X a month kind of support.

Whether it’s a coach, therapist, mentor, spiritual guide, or even a trusted friend or family member, these individuals can help you locate blind spots you might not see on your own. They can ask the questions you hadn’t thought of, challenge your assumptions, and guide you to the very roots of your suffering. They provide fresh perspectives and insights that can illuminate the path forward, helping you make connections and uncover truths that may have been hidden from your conscious awareness.

I believe that asking for support is one of the most underrated acts of self-care. It allows us to be seen, heard, and guided back to our true selves when we feel lost.

No one can make the decision to swim back to the surface for you, but having someone by your side as you navigate the depths can make all the difference. It reconnects us to the fundamental truth that we are never truly alone. Many people hesitate to ask for help because they fear vulnerability or believe they’re isolated in their struggles. But remember, if you’re going through something, someone else has likely faced it too.

So, where in your life do you need more support? How can you open yourself to receiving it?

Powerful Affirmations I love for Embracing Support and Healing:

“I’m worthy of receiving support."

"I open myself to guidance for the next best steps.”

"It’s safe for me to ask for help."

"Support is always available to me, and I welcome it."

"I allow myself to be seen and heard."

Asking for support is not a sign of weakness; it’s a superpower that connects us to our shared humanity. It’s a courageous acknowledgment that we are all on a journey, and it’s okay to need help along the way. When you find yourself sinking, know that there’s always someone ready to help you rise again.

If you find yourself in a space where extra support feels needed, know that it's okay to ask for it. Sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do is allow ourselves to receive. If my words resonate with where you are right now, and you feel called to explore deeper support, I'm here. Together, we can navigate the journey with care, and move toward the clarity and empowerment you're seeking. Feel free to reach out if it feels aligned for you.
